A 1859 second-edition copy bearing William D. Stuart’s bookplate and a separate Stuart signature dated January 1875.

BindingDecorated publisher’s cloth boards with a gilt sphinx, blind-stamped circular bands, border, and corner ornament. A later cloth spine retains gilt title lettering; the board surface is rubbed.
Edition EvidenceThe chromolithographic title bears “SECOND EDITION” in red block capitals along the wooden base, confirming the 1859 second edition.
Presentation / AssociationWilliam D. Stuart’s ownership bookplate; a separate Stuart signature is dated January 1875.
ProvenanceA bookplate names William D. Stuart and bears the motto “NE CEDE MALIS.” A separate Stuart signature with indistinct initials is dated “Jan. 1875”; the relationship between the two ownership marks is unrecorded.
