Binding Description
Original green publisher’s cloth with gilt sphinxes and blind-stamped circular bands and borders. Plain cloth spine with library shelfmark; wear at corners and spine ends.

Copy Notes
- Four contemporary newspaper clippings are tipped in at the front. The title bears the second-edition statement and pencilled “Rosetta stone inscription.” The Gilpin dedication bears no. 136946 and a crossed-out notation.
- An incomplete metallic mark occurs on the front circular band but not the rear; repository examination suggests possible transfer from an adjacent binding.
