Original brown publisher’s cloth with gilt sphinx and worn gilt borders and ornaments. Boards and spine show substantial wear and separation.

- The presentation reads “Miss Cordelia Hale / from / Chas. R. Hale / (one of the authors) / May 27th 59.” Cordelia’s fuller identification remains probable.
